Connect to a Network Share in Mac OS X
1. Click on the Mac desktop. Next, click on “Finder” in the top left. From this drop down menu, click on “Preferences.”
2. In the screen that appears as shown below, be sure that “Connected Servers” is checked under “Show these items on the desktop.” You will then close this window. This will ensure that when you connect to the server in the future, you can see it on your desktop for quick navigation.
3. Next, click on the Mac desktop once more. You will then click on “Go” in the top left, followed by “Connect to Server.”
4. In the box for “Server Address” enter smb://admin.colum.edu/data as shown in the picture below.
5. Next, click on the plus (+) sign to favorite this drive.
6. You will then click on the “Connect” button.
7. A window should then pop-up asking for your username and password. Click on the “Registered User” radio button and then enter AD600\login id. You will then enter your password.
Note: Loginid is your network login, such as awilson or tjohnson. Be sure to enter AD600\ at the start, as shown in the picture below.
8. Finally, you will check the option for “Remember this password” to make connecting more simple moving forward.
Note: The system will prompt you to enter your password again if it has been reset.
9. It may take a few moments to connect to the shared drive. Once you are connected, a window will pop up as shown below.
10. A drive icon will also appear on your desktop as pictured below:
11. Once this icon appears on your desktop, you can drag it to your Dock for easy access in the future.
