Password Reset an a Apple Macbook

Known Issue : After a web password reset the Mobile Mac account has the new and old password

Issue

When a password is changed using the web password reset the Apple Mobile account doesn't know about the password change and will need to old password. Before the new password can be used to logon to the Man the user must use the OLD password to logon and be connected to the college network (wired, wireless or VPN). When that user is connected and locks or logs on a second time Key chain should update the passwords to the new password but this process doesn't always work. Often there are key chain cached password that are a mix of the old and new password..

1. Cause

  • User changes password on the web using password reset link
  • User must sill use the old password to logon to Mac since the device hasn't connected and updated to use the new password
  • To update to use the new password on a Mobile account the device must be on the college network
  • After a lock or log on when you are connected to the college network KeyChain should update the password to the new passwords on the Mac
  • The issue comes from a Mac update sometime after 26.5 where the mobile account password is somehow cached and doens't update to the new password
