Connecting to a Network Drive on a Personal Device Using VPN

Connecting to Network Drives from Personal device via VPN

Note: When logging onto VPN users may need to put “.admin.colum.edu” and add “AD600\ “to their login credentials.

  1.  On your desktop screen, click on the explorer window from task manager/startup menu.  This icon looks like a yellow folder

  2.  Next, click on “This PC”.

  3.  When you get to This PC app, click on the Computer Tab on the ribbon located on the top left corner of the app.

  4.  Next, Click on the Map Network Drive icon under the Computer Tab.

5.  Click on the drop-down arrow on the Drive option to select the appropriate letter where the Network Drive is located and type in the full name of the Network Drive in the Folder line.

For example: Most likely on a PC if there is an issue accessing a share like \\fs1 or \\isilon you need to convert them to \\fs1.admin.colum.edu or \\isilon.admin.colum.edu

For Mac’s generic smb://fs1.admin.colum.edu/data does not work and the direct share does.

Note: Make sure that you select the checkbox next to Reconnect at sign-in in order to automatically connect to the drive when you log in next time.

  6.  Click Finish. You are now connected to a Network Drive.
