Switching from Windows 10 to Windows 11: Key Home Screen Changes
This guide highlights the major layout changes users will notice when moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11, helping ease the transition.
New Design
Windows 11 introduces a refreshed design with a centered Start menu and Taskbar, offering a modern, streamlined look. The interface features rounded corners, soft pastel colors, and a clean, minimalist aesthetic.

Start Menu Redesign

Start Menu is centered on the Taskbar. Live tiles are gone, replaced by simple pinned apps and a recommended files section.
- Click All for a full listing of apps.
- Right-click on the app and select Pin to taskbar to pin an app to the Taskbar.

- Right-click on the app and select Pin to Start to add an app to the Pinned section of the Start menu.

Taskbar Updates
Centered icons: All Taskbar icons, including Start, are now centered by default.

Simplified right-click options: Right-clicking the Taskbar has fewer options;
Right-click on the Taskbar and choose Taskbar settings to access personalization options.

Search Bar
Search is now an icon (magnifying glass) on the Taskbar. Click it to open a full search window.

Virtual Desktops
Virtual desktops in Windows 11 allow you to create separate workspaces, for example, one for each project you're working on.
Creating a Virtual Desktop
- Hover over or click on the Task View icon in the taskbar and click on the New Desktop thumbnail.

- Click the Task view icon and select the other desktop to move from one desktop to another.

Snap Layouts
Windows 11 includes Snap Assist; a feature that helps you easily organize open windows on your desktop. It offers up to four different layout options, allowing you to quickly arrange up to four windows for a more efficient and streamlined workspace.
- Hover your cursor over the Maximize/Restore button to access Snap assist.

System Tray, Notification Center and Quick Settings
System Tray still shows network, sound, and battery indicators.
- Click the date/time to open the Notification Center (with calendar).
- Click Wi-Fi, sound, or battery icons to access Quick Settings (like brightness, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth).


Shut Down Windows 11
Click the Start menu, click the Power button, and choose from the provided options: Sleep, Shut down, and Restart.
