Off campus VDI Connection with Horizon View Mac and PC

These instructions show how to connect to VDI on a Windows ot Mac computer please also see the guides for iPad install Horizon View and ChromeBook install Horizon View 

Open Browser and head to https://horizon.colum.edu (please note if you are on campus or connected to VPN you should use the other URL https://mypc.colum.edu )

There are two choices

  • The Horizon View client is the best option for a more robust and better experience
  • The HTML client can be used for quick access in a pinch it works well enough for occasional use.

To Install the VMware Horizon View Client, click the Install VMware Horizon View Client Link.

 

Then follow the Go to Downloads Link in the VMWare page. Choose the correct platform.

 

Download installer for your platform.

 

Run the installer.  After the installer runs launch the Horizon View Client and select Add Server.

 

If you are off campus Enter https://horizon.colum.edu 

If you are on campus or connected to VPN you can use http://mypc.colum.edu

 

On the log on screen enter your user name and password.

If you are enrolled in DUO multi-factor authentication, you will be redirected to the SSO Login page for added security.  This will open in a new browser window:

Enter your login credentials and click Sign in, you will be asked to approve a DUO prompt:

Once you click approve, you will be see an alert to open the Horizon Client, click Open Application:

You will be redirected to the Horizon View Client, continue with the log in process.

Log in and you will see the VDI machines and applications you have access to:

Choose a machine or app to run.

You may be prompted to allow USB sharing.  If you allow this, your local drives will show up on the virtual machine and you can share files with them. This may block access to remote file shares that map with he same drive letter. Click deny if you are concerned about this issue (you can always allow later if you need to share files you can do this though the Horizon View menu at the top of the screen).

 

The Connect USB Device menu, in the Horizon View Menu, will also share USB devices, e.g. a web cam or Wacom tablet, with the remote VM. 


 

 

For HTML Access Click the VMWare HTML Access Link and select the Domain based on your status.

Enter your credentials and click "Login":

Once you click approve, you will be redirected to the Horizon View Login page, proceed with the log in process:

Next, select a VM or the app.

 

You are now successfully connected. 

 

Open the tab to see the tools.
