Using Panopto in Canvas with the Safari Browser

Default settings in the web browser Safari may prevent the Panopto application, as well as Panopto videos from opening properly when accessed from within Canvas courses. By default, cross-site tracking and cookies are blocked within Safari. If these settings are enabled in your Safari settings, you may receive a sign-in prompt or an error message when you open Panopto or a Panopto video from within Canvas. To correct this, settings in Safari may be adjusted with the following steps to prevent these problems from occurring. You may also alternatively use another supported browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

1. Open the Safari browser.

2. Click on “Safari” in the top left of your screen, immediately to the right of the apple icon.

3. Select “Preferences” from the menu that appears.

4. From the preferences menu, select “Privacy.”

5. Uncheck the boxes for “Prevent cross-site tracking” and “Block all cookies.”     

6. Re-open your browser and open Panopto or a Panopto video from within Canvas, and the application and content will launch properly.
